It doesn’t matter what the weather is doing, if I can put my hair up into a ponytail or a quick updo I will. I tried cut my hair super short last fall to try to keep it off my neck. Well I hate short hair on me right now and while it’s grown a lot I’m always looking for ways to put it back.
I decided to include updos that can be done with long and short hair as well as straight, wavy, and even curly hair. No matter what your hair length or texture there is an updo in this post for you.
A few tips about updos. Updos always work better on next day hair. Freshly washed and dried hair often times is too soft and doesn’t have enough oil on it to properly pull it back. It’s not impossible it will just take some products to get it to hold and stay.
I have two main products I use when styling my hair in updos. I recommend using any hair spray you like because we all have different preferences when it come to our hair spray.
The two products I regularly use for hair styling are great for any hair type. One is used for protecting and fixing damage done to your hair from styling. The other has a light hold on the hair without leaving your hair sticky or giving you such a strong hold it’s unnatural.

Directly after the shower before combing your hair with a wide tooth comb, this is the one I use, I use OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum in my hair. I have extremely thick hair but it’s currently cut short and I only use one pump. Which means this product will last a while.
Simply rub between hands and then scrunching from the ends up the shaft of the hair to apply. Run wide toothed comb through the hair to the end. Go ahead and blow dry and curl as needed.
The serum helps to repair dry and damaged hair while also protecting it by adding strength and elasticity.
Side note: To check the elasticity of your hair, pluck a single hair from your head and wrap the two ends around your index fingers. Gently pull your hands apart. If the strand breaks easily you have brittle hair and need to start conditioning treatments immediately. If it takes a bit to get it to break your hair is healthy.

After styling but before putting the hair in an updo I take a little bit of this texturizing cream rubbed between my fingertips and then finger combed throughout my hair. This texturizing cream feels extremely sticky on the hands but once dry in the hair leaves your hair with a great hold but soft touch.
L’Oreal Studio Line Out of Bed Texturizing Cream is super helpful in creating that second day, bed head, slightly messy look that is super popular right now.
